Mikel Arteta has lavished praise on Kieran Tierney and admits the ‘humble’ Arsenal full-back has been ‘one of the positives’ since his arrival as manager.
Tierney was injured following Arteta’s appointment as the Gunners’ head coach in November, but has since returned to the side following the Premier League‘s restart and has impressed with a series of accomplished performances.
The Scotland international arrived with a big reputation from Celtic last summer and has settled quickly in English football despite his injury problems, and Arteta has praised the 23-year-old for his application.
“He’s been one of the positives since I joined,” Arteta said at his pre-match press conference. “His character, the way he trains, the way he pushes himself. He is exactly what we need and he is the kind of player I love.
“I’m really, really happy with him. He had some tough moment but he is much happier and settled.”
Tierney made the headlines ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup victory at Sheffield United after arriving at Bramall Lane carrying his kit in a supermarket carrier bag, an incident which Arteta believes demonstrates the normality and humble nature of the Arsenal left-back.
“This is Kieran. He is a very humble, normal guy and he does what he thinks is right.”
Arsenal will be seeking to make it three wins in succession in all competitions when they host struggling Norwich at the Emirates tomorrow evening, admitting there is little room for error in their pursuit of European football.
“Every game is a must-win game for now because we have a few teams ahead of us,” Arteta added.
“The margin for error is minimal and we have to be very strong at home if we want any chance of finishing in the European places.”
